Residential Treatment
When provided a structured environment with safety, boundaries and compassion, our residential boys can work to overcome the trauma in their pasts. Confident that they are safe and cared for, the boys learn to trust again. Our hope is that through a safe, structured environment, dedicated staff and healing therapies, each of the boys will learn the skills he needs to live in a loving home where he can flourish.
Intensive Residential Services
Our Level 4 Residential services provide intensive psychiatric and behavioral interventions that address the needs of a struggling child. A treatment team consisting of the Therapist, Youth Care Group Leader, Psychiatrist and Nursing staff develops a master plan of care along with the child, their family, and any other agency that may be involved in the child’s life. This service is provided to males ages 5 to 18 and involves varying lengths of stay from one month to nine months and longer. The emphasis is returning the child to a home or lower level of care with skills for the child and family to address behaviors in a safe and appropriate manner in the home. The child receives consistent individual therapy, and if the family is involved, family therapy is also provided.
2007 Statistics
• 99 children participated in residential treatment services
• 84% were placed back in the home with other family members or
with foster or adoptive families
• The average length of stay for Gillis residential children was 185 days
Inpatient Family Focus
Our Inpatient Family Focus program begins with a three to four month residential stay. During that stay, a treatment team is assigned and the child and family are assessed for their background, behavior history, and the issues that have lead them to seeking treatment. The treatment team consists of a Therapist, Specialist, Youth Care Group Leader, Psychiatrist and Nursing staff and this team develops a comprehensive Master Plan of Care addressing the child and family’s needs. After the three month stay and several weekend home passes, the child is returned home and begins the Outpatient Family Focus phase. Individual and family therapy are provided on a consistent basis in this program.
2007 Statistics
• 35 children received Inpatient Family Focus services.
• 29 of those children were returned home at the end of the
outpatient intervention.
