Muti-Dimensional Treatment Foster Care With Gillis

What Makes MTFC Different?

• Foster parents have the opportunity to focus their efforts on the care of one foster child at a time.
• Foster parents are an essential part of the team along with the program staff.
• Foster parents in the MTFC program implement a structured program customized for each youth under the guidance of the program supervisor.
• Foster parents receive an enhanced level of support from the program staff (Program staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
• Foster parents meet regularly with other foster parents in the program to support and learn from each other.
• Foster parents receive a daily phone call to check on the youth’s behavior and their own level of stress.
• Foster parents receive financial support every month when a child is placed in their home.

The MTFC Model

This evidence-based program provides treatment foster care for teens, ages 12-18 years, with emotional problems so that they can be treated in the context of a healthy family home. MTFC foster parents use a structured behavior management to teach youth positive skills and behavior. The system takes the burden off of the foster parents by setting guidelines for clear acceptable behavior and the consequences for misbehavior. The system also gives foster parents an opportunity to provide encouragement and reward the youth for positive behavior. The program staff is always available to foster parents to help with any problems. A home-style placement provides teenagers with the best opportunities to learn and change. This is accomplished by providing:

• A supportive relationship with a mentoring adult
• Close supervision
• Fair and consistent limits and consequences
• Minimize association with peers who may be a negative influence
