Gillis, like most not-for-profits, relies on the generosity of donors to help us achieve our goals. Donations are an opportunity for you, your family, organization, group, and church members to make a difference.

Items for Donation

Private donations are vital to the services Gillis offers to children and families in Kansas City. Gillis is a 501(c)3 organization, and donations may be tax deductible.

Send Gillis a Contribution

Monetary donations: Your monetary donation is always needed and will be put to excellent use. You may designate your gift to support a particular program or activity, or allow Gillis to use the donation in the capacity that it is most needed. Cash, checks and donations of stock are popular ways to support Gillis. Honorariums and Memorial donations are a good way to remember a loved one.

In-Kind donations: Gillis gladly accepts new and gently used household items, linens, furniture, and appliances that are suitable for use by the families we serve. See a list of our need in the “Heart Full of Wishes” brochure.

Please note: Gillis is a part of Cornerstones of Care, an organization formed to provide framework to our partnership with Spofford, Marillac, Ozanam, and Healthy Families. While your donation will be received and utilized by Gillis, your credit card statement will reflect Cornerstones of Care, which receives and disburses our online donations.

Planned Estate Giving

Many donors realize the advantages to themselves, their families and Gillis and start planned giving programs. These gifts and programs can be tailored to suit the needs of the donor. To find out if planned giving is right for you, please contact your professional estate planner.

The Ella C. Loose Heritage Society is the planned giving program for Gillis. We encourage you to join and help us ensure that Gillis and our programs and services are here to serve those future children and families who need our support.

Stories

She was teaching French in a local school and decided to further her education. However, to do so meant she would have to go to France. With her husband in med-school that wasn’t possible. So, she went to KU and received a degree in special education. She observed a class here with Cathy Dennis, who suggested Becky do her student teaching at Gillis. She did and when Cathy learned she was pregnant and decided to leave, she suggested Becky fill her position.

Gillis News

As part of their community service hours at Rockhurst High School, two young men volunteered at Gillis, working with the residential students. One day they looked around and realized that the common areas were not what they, as “typical” teenagers, would like to look at every day. So, they undertook a cottage renovation project. READ MORE
